Day 8: Through Reservation to Grand Canyon
- Driving thru Navaho Nation Indian Reservation
- Pull over, b/c we can’t see our the front window…car will not start
- 50mph winds
- Called AAA (again) we have to be towed 145 mile at $5 a mile
- While we are waiting for the tow, we flagged down a truck.
Day 7: Irran to New Mexico
-Fixed the van in an hour…pretty cheap also
-Making up time…still in TX
-Roswell is a shit hole. Stopped at a gas station a woman was pumping gas into the backseat of her car, boyfriend smoking and all the windows were closed
-Stopped at a Casino to eat, play nickel shots, and get free drinks. Unfortunately, they aren’t allowed to sell alcohol on the Reservation. We ended up...
Day 6: Austin to "the middle of nowhere TX"
-Detour through Hill Country
-Exchanged a few TX/Bush jokes (they never get old)
-Stopped for lunch at a great Mexican restaurant
-We broke down at Exit 325 of I-10 and were towed into Irran, TX “Home of the Braves”
-Met Terry the mechanic…no teeth, long hair, lot of jail tattoos (including KKK across his fingers), despite this was a really friendly guy
-Shop was closed for...
Day 5: New Orleans to Austin, TX
-Texas is f*ing forever
-the last stretch to Austin was a BITCH!
-6th Street, was kinda weak, but we were sleepy, hungry and not really in the mood.
-A couple of wrong turns
-We ended up sleeping in the van, across the street from a jail (i think) in a hotel parking lot.
Day 4: New Orleans
-Street Car
-Water Moccasin!
-Mississippi River
-Snowcone
-Lower 9th- surprised by the lack of anything. No signs, no people, just overgrown and empty
Back to Jerrell’s
-More awesome music and booze’n
-Ended the night with s huge amt of fried chicken
Day 2: Southern...
- Jeff and I both agree; we’re very happy that we painted the van plain white.
- Confederate Flags
- Ghost Towns
- Boiled Peanuts
- Stopped at a hotel b/w Pensacola and Mobile, Alabama
Day 3: Alabama- New Orleans, LA
-Got lost getting to Jerrell’s house-Ended up in 8/9 Ward. Evidence of Katrina is still very obvious
-HUGE daiquiris - Jeff won a brain freeze
-Amazing music
-Delicious food: cajan fried chicken, shrimp creole, chicken “t-something”
Day 1: Swansboro to Savannah
- Matt’s Game
-slept in the van, of the top of the parking garage…no parking brake, beautiful sunset/sunrise, mild weather
-spanish moss
-trashy fist-fighting groom at karaoke bar, shouting racial slurs
-best bloody mary-zig-zag mix, plus A1
